Broadcast - 16 July 2023
Firstly, if you are listening to this broadcast via repeater VK7RAA and its Sunday morning then this is indeed a good sign, looks like the mercy dash up Mt. Arthur by Tony VK7YBG, Peter VK7ZPE and Andre’ VK7ZAB on Friday payed off and the batteries are once again at an acceptable charge level to hold the repeater. NTARC weren’t the only ones deploying technicians on the mountain on Friday as there were two more working on the other side of the plateau with similar problems caused by the previous battering of gale force winds. They suffered similar problems, failed wind generator and insufficient solar reserves to maintain their commercial site. Thanks fellows for volunteering and band aiding the system on such an utterly abysmal Friday.
Hopefully no one turned up at the NTARC Club Rooms last Wednesday night because we had all relocated to Tramms Bistro located in “The Park on Invermay” - for the clubs yearly mid-winter social get together. We all gathered before six thirty and claimed our reserved table. There was much chattering and cheerful banter going on as we all discussed the menu before ordering. There was an excellent selection of dishes on the menu, everything from the ever popular chicken parmigiana through to Japanese Salmon Swirl, even good old scrambled eggs, something for everyone. hi-hi. Orders were taken and service was fast. The served up dishes were excellent, everyone seemed happy. For those of us that had left a bit of space for “later”, we finished off with Rocky Road or Sticky Date Pudding for desert. It may have been a social evening but much of the conversation, you guessed it….. was interspersed with radio and electronics, as always. A great time was had by all and we made our way home thoroughly satiated.
Now looking forwards towards the end of the month, specifically Saturday the 29th of July. NTARC has again been asked to provide Safety Communications for an Equine Endurance Ride, this time to be held at Lebrina. We will be providing voice communications for Ride Base and hopefully two checkpoints. Due to the events early start on Saturday, NTARC will be setting up Base and testing checkpoints for voice communications on the Friday afternoon.
As the location is a pleasant forty minute drive from Launceston why not consider coming along and putting your radio skills to good use assisting a community event. If this is your first event then you will be paired with an experienced operator so that you can quickly grasp the procedures involved and NTARC’s regular general approach to these events.
If anyone would like to assist at this event then our Safety Communications Coordinator Roger, VK7ARN would appreciate hearing from you. Roger can be contacted by email at safetycomms.ntarc@gmail.com
