Broadcast - 30 March 2025
After listening to last week’s broadcast and the phenomenal list of successful VK7 Amateurs taking part in field days I decided to check out the competition section of the WIA web site. As a state we certainly did do extremely well. I ended up on a page entitled Contest Champion List for 2024, this recognises the score achievement of those amateurs who have participated in multiple WIA contests and have submitted a log. Out of a total entrant field of 286 people Nationally, Tasmania came in with 4 in the top 13 places.
Second Place was achieved and awarded to Peter VK7KPC with a solid score of 380. Congratulations Peter, your ongoing enthusiastic participation in contests and with this result has come at a particularly interesting time for you.
Just in case everybody isn’t aware Peter and Kay have literally just finished packing their household belongings and these have been collected in readiness for their imminent relocation to South Australia. Needless to say the radio shack side of things did taking a bit longer…. However Peter has done an amazing job, but the club rooms are now bulging with items that didn’t make the final cut to be moved with them.
A farewell morning tea at the club rooms was held last Friday, aptly in the midst of all his “Radio Gems” as he calls them! HI HI. Adding the last of his received certificates to the NTARCs club “Brag Folder”, we cannot but wonder if obtaining the National second place was Peters “Last Hurrah” for NTARC and Tasmania. After what was intended to be a two year transfer to Tasmania by the Department Of Civil Aviation it ended up being a seventeen year stay. I am sure that all amateurs wish you well in your new adventure, the big winner really has been amateur radio in VK7. Thank you Peter and Kay for everything….
Last week I mentioned the live streaming of Wednesday’s on air TechNet - Morse Code Course, hosted by Nic VK7WW. Jordan VK3ACU is providing an independent of Discord live stream of the evening and a copy is available on his YouTube channel after the event. So if you want to start off with Nic using the Man-ual Morse Chart for the decoding of the Morse Code being sent, then you are in luck. All weekly sessions have been recorded and added to Jordan’s channel.
The Manual Morse Chart allows you to decode the CW being sent with relative ease for those of us that don’t know Morse Code. Simplistically you move up, down or across the chart each time and depending on whether you hear a dot or a dash. That’s a little bit simplistic but check out the chart and you should be able to follow what I mean. Thank you Nic and Jordan for your time and effort.
The link to the saved live streamed Slow Morse Code Course using the Manual Morse Code Sheet is in the text version of the broadcast.
A final reminder for this Wednesdays Club Technical Night on the 2nd of April. Andrew VK7DW is going to give a short presentation on the “Fram2Ham” Slow Scan TV simulation tests conducted from the International Space Station. These tests were designed to “simulate the challenges and unknowns” of transmitting 70 cm SSTV images hopefully from a Dragon capsule in the near future. See you at the club rooms this Wednesday night.
As always pictures will be available on the NTARC Web site under “Blogs” for this broadcast. NTARC Blogs
